Starting on Monday June 22nd, the CSUDH library will be changing its off-campus login procedures.
You will now be able to log in with the same login information and password that you use for Blackboard, campus e-mail, and to log in to the computers around campus. This will make it easier to log in, as you will no longer have to use your 9-digit ID number to access your patron record and our electronic databases.
If you are a non-affiliated library patron and do not have this login and password, you will still be able to access our site as before by using your library ID number and last name.
If you do not know what your campus username and password are, you can find them through MyCSUDH by using the following link: http://my.csudh.edu (The links are located about halfway down the left-hand side of the page, labeled "forgot your password?" and "forgot your username?"

Mandatory Logins on Library Public Computers
Starting on Wednesday, June 17th, computers in the library will require users to log in with their campus username and password to get access. The process will be a phased one, and is set to be completed on Monday, June 22nd. The campus username and password are the same ones used to log in to Blackboard, campus e-mail, and the computers in Welch Hall and other parts of campus.
This change will affect all public computers located near the reference desk on the second floor of the library. Our 4 handicapped-accessible computers, located between the reference desk and the library entrance, will be included in the switch. However, the library will maintain 5 public access computers that do not need a login. These are the computers located opposite the circulation desk. This will enable us to continue to serve those members of our community who use the Dominguez Hills library.
We respectfully ask that students, faculty, staff, and others with a Dominguez Hills ID and password not use these public-access computers, as they are intended for members of the general public.

Library Construction Noise
There will be considerable noise from construction on all floors of the library building for the next few weeks, as the new library construction project is being connected to the existing building.
In order to connect the two buildings, walls along the South face of the library will be demolished over the next few weeks. There is likely to be a lot of noise from this, and we apologize to all students, faculty, staff and others who use the library.
Parts of the stacks on floors three and four are also affected by this process, as shelves nearest to the walls had to be emptied and removed in order to safely demolish the walls and to build temporary walls.
There should be no dust or other debris throughout the process, as temporary walls will have been constructed along the South walls to prevent the demolition from unduly affecting library patrons.
Please direct any inquiries or comments about the process to Adele Vanarsdale of Facilities Planning and Construction Management at (310) 243-3826. Her office horus are 8-5 Monday through Friday.
If you need help finding a book in the affected parts of the library stacks, please go to the Circulation desk for assistance. The Circulation desk is open during all library hours, and closes 15 minutes prior to the libary's closing time. Their phone number is (310) 243-3717.

New CSU-wide Mango catalog announced
The library has a new way to search for books! With the CSU Mango catalog, you can search all CSU libraries at once. This addition to our online repertoire replaces the old CSU Pharos system, and will give you listings of books at any CSU campus, including Dominguez Hills.
The library is planning to implement ILLiad, an Inter-Library Loan service which mimics the point-and-click book request functionality of LINK+, over the summer to ensure that faculty and students can easily request books from other libraries. ILLiad will also help to reduce work load on our understaffed ILL department (which has only one full time employee), so that you can receive your books faster.
For now, go check out the CSU Mango catalog at http://library.calstate.edu/catalog/books/advanced (Select “Dominguez Hills” if you're off campus). We hope that it will help you to find the books you need at a CSU campus. Even though ILLiad is not yet implemented for book requests, you can click the “Find it @ CSUDH Lib” button to go to our Inter-Library Loan page and put in a manual request for a book you need.

LINK+ Cancellation Announced
Please note that as of May 1, 2009, the library will no longer be subscribing to the LINK+ inter-library loan service. This unfortunate cut is due to the library’s—and the CSU system’s—current budget situation.
This means that May 1, 2009 is the last day that you will be able to place a request for any LINK+ materials. After that date, all inter-library loan requests must be processed through the library website’s ILL page, located here: http://library.csudh.edu/services/ILL/ The standard ILL service takes longer than LINK+ (anywhere between 10 and 14 working days), so keep this in mind when requesting materials from other libraries.
We apologize for any inconvenience the cancellation of the LINK+ service may cause, and thank you for using the library.

Please note that you can no longer log in to library services from off-campus using your Social Security Number.
Please use ONLY the barcode ID number on your student or faculty/staff ID card to log in to the Library system in order to renew your books online and remotely access the Library’s resource. When reading ebooks, searching article databases, and downloading full-text journal articles, etc., from off-campus you will need to use this ID number.
If you are not sure about your barcode ID number, or if it is not on your ID card, please call the IT Help Desk at 310-243-2500 for help.
What is my barcode ID number?
Your barcode ID number is the 14-digit number on your ID card. It is the number 20550 followed by your 9-digit ID number. This number is printed at the very bottom of the ID card on all new IDs.
Example: 20550982340006
(please do not use spaces, dashes or hyphens).

New Ways to Search
We've added a few new ways for you to search for books and articles at the CSUDH library.
The first of these is Google Scholar, which you can use to search for journal articles from a number of journals. Once you associate your web browser with our library (under "scholar preferences" from the main Google Scholar page), you can click the search results to go right into our databases!
Click here for a tutorial on how to set up google scholar for your computer.
The second new search method is WorldCat. WorldCat lets you find books and articles not only in our own library, but in libraries around the world. While you may not ever need to know that the Koninklijke Bibliotheek has a copy of Le Petit Prince, this tool can help you find textbooks and other research materials in libraries around the Los Angeles area instead of just here at CSUDH. This can be useful if we don't have a book you need and you don't want to wait for inter-library loan.
