New Library Floor Plans

Floor plans for both library buildings (North and South) are now available on the library's floor plans web page. The plans are to scale and show the location of books, offices, and other pertinent features of the library like computers and photocopiers.

You can also download a printable PDF copy of the map on the page, which includes a separate list of the items on each floor.

Laptop Loan Office May/Summer Schedule

Laptop rentals and Group Study room checkouts will be unavailable from May 23rd through May 27th. However, the laptop loan office will still be open from the 23rd through the 25th for the return of equipment.

The office will be closed the 27th through the 30th, and will re-open for laptop and group study room checkouts throughout both summer sessions, from May 31st through August 19th.

PICTURE Art Student Essay Contest - $500 Prize

The PICTURE Art Foundation maintains the PICTURE Cultural Art Center on the first floor of the new CSUDH Library. To celebrate the opening of their new exhibit, "On Being Human: Love, Faith, Shame and Hope," opening May 5th, the foundation is sponsoring a student essay contest with a $500 cash prize for the winning entry. The winning essay will also be featured on the foundation's website, http://www.pictureartfoundation.org.

Contest Details

Write an essay of any length on a piece of art found in the exhibit "On Being Human: Love, Faith, Shame and Hope." The essay should include at least one of the following angles: sociological, historical, cultural, art historical or art appreciation.

Students are required to visit the exhibit to choose a particular work. Outside research is strongly encouraged, especially if it relates to current classwork.

Picture Art Foundation - Student Essay Contest Flyer

USC Libraries Wonderland Award

Are you a fan of Lewis Carroll? If you are, you may want to take note of the USC Libraries Wonderland Award.

The award is is an annual multidisciplinary competition that encourages new scholarship and creative work related to Lewis Carroll (1832-1898), the English logician, mathematician, photographer, and nonsense poet who authored Alice’s Adventures in Wonderland (1865) and its sequel, Through the Looking Glass (1871). The contest is open to graduate and undergraduate students from all disciplines at all Southern California universities. Previous winners have included creative writing, journalism, fine art, and biomedical engineering students.

The deadline for entry is April 1st, and the first prize is $2,000 with a second place prize of $1,500. If you enter and win, let us know so we can feature you on the library page!

Mac Lab Now Open

The library's new Mac Lab is now open for student use. This lab contains 12 apple computers loaded with Mac OS X and is located just behind the reference desk on the second floor of the library's south wing.

Lab hours are the same as the library's hours of operation.

Library Hours: Winter and Spring 2011

The library hours for Winter and Spring semesters for 2011 are posted in the "library hours" section of the library website. Hours will be as follows:

Winter Semester hours: January 3rd through January 22nd.

• Monday through Friday - 8AM to 5PM
• Saturday - 10AM to 5PM
• Sunday - Closed
  
• Library closed Monday, January 17th in observation of Martin Luther King, Jr. Day
  

Spring Semester hours: January 24th through the end of the Spring semester.

• Monday through Thursday - 8AM to 8PM
• Friday - 8AM to 5PM
• Saturday - 10AM to 5PM
• Sunday - Closed

Spring Semester closures will be announced as the semester advances.
