Library Renovation Project

Beginning Tuesday, March 2 through April 29, the second floor of the library building will be undergoing renovation. During this time, some library services will be limited or relocated. We apologize for the inconvenience to our users, and thank you for your patience as we prepare newer and better facilities.

The following services will be impacted during these dates:

• Computers – Regrettably, computer access in the library will be limited to 26 computers. These computers are located in the Internet Café and the Instruction Lab (A213). The reference area computers on the second floor will not be available. Please plan to use the Welch Hall or Instructional Media Center computer labs during the renovation process. Printing will still be available.

• Seating – Second floor seating will be unavailable. Please use the third and fourth floors of the library during this period.

• Reference – The reference desk will be relocated to the opposite side of the second floor, next to the circulation desk.

• Information Desk – The information desk will be relocated to the Instruction Lab.

2010 Winter Session

The library will be open the following hours during Winter Session 2010, January 4 - January 23rd:

Mondays-Thursdays: 8:00AM to 7:00PM.
Fridays: 8:00AM to 5:00PM.
Saturdays: 11:00AM to 3:00PM.

Note that the library will be closed on the following days:
Friday, January 8th
Friday, January 15th
Saturday, January 16th
Monday, January 18th

The library will resume its usual semester hours on Friday, January 25th. For a list of hours through February, see the library's calendar page.

Winter Schedule

Please note that the library hours will be altered over Winter Break. The library will be closed Dec. 24th, 2009 through January 3rd, 2010.

Other December hours are as follows:

Tuesday, December 22nd: 8:00AM-5:00PM
Wednesday, December 23rd: 8:00AM - NOON

Exam Week Hours

The library will be open later than usual Monday through Thursday and Saturday during finals (Dec. 9, 10, 12, 14, 15, 16). Note that Friday and Sunday hours will remain the same during this time.

Hours for these two weeks are as follows:

Thursday, December 10th - 8AM to 10PM
Friday, December 11th - 8AM to 5PM
Saturday, December 12th - 10AM to 5PM

ILLiad system announced

Starting from Monday, October 19, 2009, the University Library will be implementing a new ILL (Inter-Library Loan) system, which will replace the current ILL program.

Why:
The new ILL system is more automated and the turn-around service time will be much shorter. It also allows library users to check the status of their currently checked-out ILL items, as well as the status of in-progress loans (e.g. “Your item shipped yesterday”), and other useful features.

When:
Starting from Monday, October 19, 2009, we will gradually migrate to the new ILL system. Some of the ILL request links will be directed to the new system.

What changes to expect:
- The new system will ask you to log in using your MYCSUDH account.
- The new system will also ask first time users to fill out a patron information form. This form will help the library build an ILLIad Patron database. The patron information will only be asked for once.
- The system request form will also ask for an ISBN or ISSN number.

What is ILL?
For those of you who might not know:
If the library does not have what you need (books or articles) for your assignments and research, the Library can probably get it for you. This service is called ILL (Inter-Library Loan). The ILL service is limited to currently registered students, faculty, emeriti faculty, and staff.

Library Hours for Fall Semester 09

During the upcoming Fall semester, the library will be open until 8PM Monday through Thursday.

Except for days when the campus is closed due to holidays or furloughs (as listed on the CSUDH Academic Calendar) the library's schedule will be as follows:

• Monday - Thursday: 8:00AM - 8:00PM


• Friday: 8:00AM - 5:00PM


• Saturday - 11:00AM - 3:00PM


• Sunday: Closed

We apologize for the inconvenience caused by this reduction of hours, which is a direct consequence of the CSU system-wide budget cuts implemented by the government of California.

Library Closed for State Furloughs

The library will be closed for state furlough days on Friday August 14th and Friday August 21st this month. The rest of campus will also be closed on those days.

These closures are due to a state-wide furlough of CSU employees, much like the ones already suffered by other state employees. Note that the CSU system will only be implementing two furlough days per month, however, and not three per month.

In addition, in order to continue to serve students to the furthest extent possible, Dominguez Hills will be implementing staggered furlough days in most months. What this means is that the campus will remain open as only half of the faculty and staff will be absent on any given furlough day. Please see the library website for a full list of our August hours.

A calendar of furlough days (subject to finalization from the President's office) follows:

August 2009: Campus closed on Friday August 14th and Friday August 21st

September 2009: Half of employees gone on Friday September 4th, Tuesday September 8th, Friday September 18th and Monday September 21st.

October 2009: Half of employees gone on Friday October 2nd, Monday October 5th, Friday October 16th and Monday October 19th.

November 2009: Half of employees gone on Friday November 6th and Monday November 9th, Campus closed on Friday November 27th.

December 2009: Half of employees gone on Friday December 4th and Monday December 7th, Campus closed on Thursday December 24th.
